The Prologue of this podcast introduces the Fermi's Paradox. It is essentially the question of if extraterrestrials do exist, where are they? And why haven't we found them yet? Ira Glass and David Kestenbaum talk about this and their own opinions of the idea. David says how at first he thought life was everywhere without thinking in depth. But when he realized we might be very alone, with no one that knows more than us. Ira doesn't feel sad about it like David though. He sees it more in relation to a Woody Allen movie where they reference the universe expanding. Ira asks why is it the kid in the movies business whether the universe is expanding while David asks why is no one listening! They laugh off their differences, but still keep attention on Fermi's paradox.

I think these three acts were put together in this episode because even though they are very different experiences, they all tie into Fermi's Paradox and what it means to feel alone or have the realization.

I would ask my parents many things I'm sure, but a few of the first questions to come to mind would be:

Do you think there are aliens? why or why not?

Why can't we breathe in outer space? Is it because we aren't supposed to go beyond our own realm?

How does one live a good life?

Why must we worry?

Like Ira, I really don't think of it too in depth. But it is a little scary. But really, its scary that there's so many people in this world that I will never come in contact with, its scary to talk to strangers, everyone is an extraterrestrial before you meet them really. Yes we all live on Earth, but the diversity and make up of the Earth is extraordinary in itself, I wouldn't be any more surprised if there were unknown civilizations. If they haven't hurt us or infiltrated our society yet, whats to really really be scared about. There's already so many minds working in our universe just on Earth, we ourselves can be deemed aliens when we make new discoveries.

What is love?
