Brainstorm Topic Ideas: Read, Talk, Sketch Enjoy

This section mainly discusses ways to get ideas flowing before you decide your focus. The reading says we should start out with research on the topic at hand. This will give us the basis of what we need to know before we get into idea making for potential focuses and questions. We can also do this by talking to people about our ideas and getting their opinions. We should also make lists, freewrite, and mindmap. These techniques allow ideas to flow without judgement from others, but we can get ALL the ideas we want through this for possible options.

My takeaway from the section I summarized is that coming up with an idea can be done in a variety of ways. I feel that all the ways in the reading section were great ways to choose a topic, but i've ultimately found my best way is to do preliminary research and then mindmap. Mindmapping is a very visual way to brainstorm because you can see the relationships and connections of the topic and its ideas. Sometimes it is hard to choose a topic and be creative. You can avoid choosing a topic/research question you already know the answer to by brainstorming topics you usually wouldn't, learn more about, and things you might have interest in but have never dug deep into the subject.

I have not made a decision on a community yet, but have interest in the Dance Marathon community.
